The Indian real estate sector has witnessed high growth in recent times with the rise in demand for office as well as residential spaces.According to data released by Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), the construction development sector in India has received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) equity inflows to the tune of US$ 24.19 billion in the period April 2000-March 2016. Overall, there is a considerable improvement in the sentiments for the real estate sector.

REITs and Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvITs) are attracting the right amount of interest, given their potential to raise funds, free up capital for developers and create an alternative asset class for the investors looking for stable yields. With the exemption from dividend distribution tax finally being extended in the Union Budget 2016, most of the issues surrounding REITs and InvITs have been ironed out.
