Keynote: The Role of DLT in Financial Services
Speaker: Navin Gupta - Managing Director, South Asia & MENA, Ripple
About Session: The technology behind distributed ledgers, generally referred to as distributed ledger technology (DLT), provides a variety of potential value propositions for the financial industry, including strengthened identity measures, improvements in information preservation and data integrity, processing efficiencies, increased operational capacity and compliance effectiveness.
14:00 - 14:20
A European View on DLT and the Future of Capital Markets
Speaker: Michael Gebert - Chairman, European Blockchain Association
About Session: After years of experimentation, many DLT and smart contract use cases in capital markets are live across jurisdictions. Market participants are launching solutions designed to improve existing processes for defined ecosystems in numerous asset classes and in some cases are reimagining value chains as we know them today. However, grand visions of disintermediation or total digital transformation at scale are still far from being realized. How are industry dynamics – collaboration and competition – shaping adoption and demand?
14:30 - 14:50
Transnational Unit of Account Resulting from the Monetization of Intra-firm Trade
Speaker: Marc Pilkington - Associate Professor of Economics, University of Burgundy
About Session: Transfer prices escape market-dictated conditions, by taking place within the  intrafirm trade ruleset. Intra-firm cross-border trade has held up better than inter-firm trade since 2008; it is now  the basis for trade globalization.  We formulate a novel reform proposal, the re-monetization of multinationals' intra-firm exchanges in a global cryptocurrency called Intra-Firm Trade Coin (IFTC). Banks could well become major stakeholders in the process.
15:00 - 15:45
Panel Discussion: Will Blockchain Disrupt or Rebuild the Banking & Financial Services
Moderator: Narayanan Raman - Director | Consulting, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India LLP
Panelists:
  1. Prof. Dr. Philipp Sandner - Head, Frankfurt School Blockchain Center
  2. Dr Agata Ferreira - Warsaw University of Technology

  4. Marloes Pomp - International Strategy, Dutch Blockchain Coalition
  5. Benjamin Duve - Head of Digital Assets & Custody, Commerzbank AG
About Session: Blockchain technology provides a way for untrusted parties to come to agreement on the state of a database, without using a middleman. By providing a ledger that nobody administers, a blockchain could provide specific financial services like payments or securitization. Further, blockchain allows for the use of tools like “smart contracts,” self-executing contracts based on the blockchain, which could potentially automate manual processes from compliance and claims processing to distributing the contents of a will.
